Filip, a young man from Dalmatian Zagora, inspired by the enticing stories of guest workers who occasionally come to his homeland on leave, finds himself one day alone at the station in Frankfurt am Main. He is looking for his local Mata to get his first support abroad, but he does not find him. He is employed illegally, has an accident at work and runs from one discouraging situation to another. His love for young Verica gives him some sort of foothold. He finally finds Mata, but he is mortally wounded.
